The Queen at 90

It can’t be easy being the Queen. I don’t mean all those big houses to look after, giving the Christmas speech or having Prince Charles for a son; but sticking to a formal dress code for over 60 years. As the designer Hardy Amies said, ‘ I do not dress the Queen. The Queen dresses herself. We supply her with her clothes – there is a difference.’

My favourite, all time, royal moment was when Her Maj appeared with Daniel Craig in the  James Bond spoof at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony. Genius. This acting debut (suggested by the Queen) showed a sense of humour that we subjects rarely see. The other day my colleague-of-a-similar-age came into work wearing a pair of Queen Shoes (the Topshop mid-heel pump that’s all over Instagram), and they looked fantastic, the leather is super soft and I am assured that they are very comfortable. Colleague Mary has them in the watermelon-y colour (available HERE) but they also come in metallic gold and dove grey. How very regal:

And finally, I  love this quote from the Queen on getting older:

‘Don’t retouch my wrinkles in the photograph, I would not want it to be thought that I had lived for all these years without having anything to show for it.’

There’s a great feature on ‘How the Queen has led the way in power dressing for the world stage’ HERE and one on ‘The flawless fashion style of the Queen’ HERE.
