Bold geometric graphics are the trademark of designer Camille Walala. And this weekend I’ll be popping to see her new interactive, Instagram-friendly exhibition at the Now Gallery in Greenwich. Born in the south of France, Walala studied Textile Design at Brighton University and has been based in London for the past 19 years. In a recent interview the artist told Time Out that she finds it hard to leave the city, adding, ‘I love London, it has an energy like nowhere else.’

Walala is inspired by the Memphis Group and describes her colourful graphics as Tribal Pop. She loves to cycle around the city and, in my opinion, that’s the best way to view her eye-catching buildings and pedestrian crossings. Just be sure to pull over to the kerb first. ‘The uglier the building the more exciting the project,’ she continues, ‘It’s just supposed to surprise people walking past and bring a smile to their faces.’

Walala x Play is on at the Now Gallery from today till 14 September 2017.
