Keeping it chic: Jodie Foster in Harper’s Bazaar
— by Alyson Walsh
Jodie Foster is one of the Women of the Year in the December 2017 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. And this feminine take on masculine tailoring is a fine example of Chic not Shouty style. The tuxedo jackets are Ralph Lauren Collection. The coat is Max Mara, of course.
On ageing Foster tells Harper’s Bazaar, ‘I’ve learnt how much joy comes from passing on what you know, even in the smallest of ways. After 50 years, you have an obligation to give your knowledge away – that’s the next level of pleasure.’
Love her style.

- Jodi Brown says:
She had me at Bugsy Malone in 1976 – ‘my name is Tallulah’. Brains, beauty and everything else besides. Gorgeous style for any age, especially the cream pants.
- Anna says:
I love that idea of passing on wisdom borne of experience. In my job as a psychologist, one of my joys in the past years (as I’ve matured) is to mentor younger colleagues with my philosophy of not only treatment but also of life and values.
- Anna says:
I love this. One of my greatest pleasures as I’ve aged is the mentoring and support of younger colleagues.
- Anita Irlen says:
Jodie Foster has always been the epitome of a certain kind of American chic. That’s why it was so funny when Hannibal Lecter, (Anthony Hopkins) belittled Clarice’s “cheap shoes.” I’ve always loved that he heard that.
- Tracy says:
I agree Jodi and Anna with both your comments. I taught the film “The Accused” in the early 90s – it was a brave film for the times and it’s central theme is still (unfortunately) relevant now in the #metoo era. Jodi Foster is an important woman in Hollywood and I always read any article on her – she is an authentic, interesting and stylish woman.
- Sweet Sue says:
Jodie’s serving up some serious Charlotte Rampling, here.
I love the concept of finding joy in passing on what we’ve learned in life!
- Lisa O'Brien says:
Takes a hammer n knocks on her skull…ooooh what’s this? What’s this? I can’t believe my eyes is this? is it? Hmmm so much info deep inside…(exploring jodie fosters mind.)
- Penelope Follows says:
I’m a Seamstress but I love to pass on my skills so I teach 3 classes a week – those classes are the highlight of my week!
- Yvonne says:
My daughter saw Jodi Foster on Tuesday night as a member of the audience for the taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She said that Jodi was by far the most interesting person on the show which included Tom Hanks adding intelligent comments on the recent Hollywood sex scandals. Unfortunately she didn’t enjoy the experience as a member of the audience where they were continually told to clap loudly, laugh uproariously and stand and sit whilst chanting. I guess it was to be expected.

I loved her from the moment I first saw her on screen, in The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane. She has always projected a strength and intelligence that is fascinating to watch. A common refrain among me and my girlfriends as we navigated the turbulent waters of our teenage years was: “What would Jodi do?” And I’ve always admire her style, too.
- Christine March says:
Love Jodie Foster. Her intelligence shines in every photo. An icon.
