Quote of the week: Grace Coddington

After the eye-popping flamboyance of the Advanced Stylistas, let’s take it down a notch or ten. Grace Coddington is a woman who sticks to a minimal uniform. Mostly black with the occasional flash of colour, her wardrobe essentials include ankle-skimming trousers, a white shirt, a simple tunic dress, cocoon coat and a pair of comfy shoes – lately Grace is looking ace in skate shoes. There’s an interview with American Vogue’s 73-year-old creative director in the FT Weekend.
On retirement Coddington says:
‘I never thought I’d still be doing this at this age. I’ve been saying I’m going to leave tomorrow for the last 10 years – but I’ve had lots of opportunities that would not otherwise have come to me. I could say I was going to leave when Condé Nast moves into our new place (near Ground Zero) but now we are moving in November, that probably won’t happen. It’s what I do, what I know best.’

Hope I’m still going for the love of it – rather than lack of a decent pension – in my eighth decade.
There was another great interview with Grace Coddington this week, in the WSJ.
She's one of my role models, love her quiet confidence.
