Celebrate John Lewis’ 150th birthday with a Lucienne Day print

After the Ines de la Fressage at Uniqlo debacle,
I started this post on John Lewis’ 150th birthday collection, noticed
that the lovely Lucienne Day print range was selling out fast, and gave
up. But I’ve just had another look online and can confirm that this
gorgeous shell top is still available. Though it is a limited collection
and, according to my source, isn’t going to be repeated. Textile
designer Lucienne Day and her husband Robin acted as design consultants
for John Lewis between 1962-1987, but this beautiful top feels just
right for now. Perfect with white jeans – it could be the new grown-up
t-shirt for summer.

I love the story of the company’s profit-sharing policy – devised by John Spedan Lewis (son of the original John Lewis and Eliza Baker), while recovering from a riding accident in 1918. Spedan Lewis came up with the idea of sharing company profits with employees as ‘ the natural alternative to anarchy.’

Other birthday celebrations at John Lewis include the opening of a roof terrace for summer – it was a bit wet and windy when I visited last week but you get a marvellous, never-seen-before view of Oxford Street.
