Don’t forget your sunglasses

These fantastic photos by Martin Parr are from the May issue of InStyle magazine. We’ve already seen the Advanced Style effect in ad campaigns, now it’s seeping into mainstream media. There is a power in this increased visibility of older women – and here, three 80-year-old women tell us what they’ve learned about style. What could be more FABulous? I agree with Jean (below in blue) who says, ‘Finishing touches add flair.’ My basics are quite pared-down but then I’ll use one standout piece, a Showbiz Jacket or pair of Pimped-Up Trainers, to liven things up.

I consider sunglasses to be a grown-up essential. Not in a ‘look at me’ celeb-y way, they’re just a useful, everyday accessory. Particularly good for nipping to the shops in, without make-up.

I’d already been thinking about adding a colourful pair to the mix. Nothing too lairy, a pale blue or pink:

These transparent pink frame Cutler & Gross sunglasses are from J.Crew, available HERE. Cutler & Gross aren’t cheap but I had a pair for over 30 years and would still be wearing them today if I hadn’t left them in a restaurant last summer. Time to put them on a chain?
