Quote of the week: Katharine Hamnett on getting old

— by Alyson Walsh

Earlier this year, I went to see Katharine Hamnett in conversation with ace fashion journalist and ambassador for emerging talent at the British Fashion Council Sarah Mower. The designer was engaging and funny and very, very honest. Afterwards she was mobbed by fans of all ages. In an interview with the Observer magazine yesterday Hamnett had this to say about ageing:

‘Getting old is a licence to kill. You become more sure of yourself, more confident in your views. There are some dodgy bits: you still feel 25 inside as you get older, and sometimes I look at myself and think: “What the fuck happened?” I loathe exercise – but now it’s do it or die.’

Katharine Hamnett’s collection is available to buy online at Matchesfashion.com and katharinehamnett.com.
