Inspirational women: 100 Leading Ladies by Nancy Honey

Nancy Honey’s portraits of 100 Leading Ladies is a brilliant reason to visit Somerset House. Not that I ever need a reason to visit one of London’s finest buildings (with the obligatory pit stop for coffee at Fernandez & Wells). The award-winning photographer  – who sold her house to fund this project – has profiled some of the most influential senior women in Britain, including: politicians, authors, scientists, CEOs, not to mention a couple of the experts I’ve interviewed for my book.

‘There seems to be a defining characteristic of success,’ says
Honey, ‘Which is the ability to be optimistic when things are going
wrong. Also, to reinvent yourself, which I think women are very good at.
All the interviews in Leading Ladies have shown me how many women have had to do that.’

Baroness Lola Young
Joan Burstein

From Diana Athill to Kirsty Wark, the 100 Leading Ladies each told their story to former Times journalist Hattie Garlick in an interview for the accompanying book. You can find the complete list of inspirational women here.

The 100 Leading Ladies exhibition is on at Somerset House until 26 October 2014.
