When TNMA met Tan France (of course we talked about grey hair)
According to reports, better customer understanding, improved design, and Sienna Miller have helped revive M&S’ fortunes. But we’re here for Tan France (who appears in the latest campaign). Last year, my assistant Helen and I had the chance to sit down for dinner with the Queer Eye stylist, who was in London promoting a fashion collaboration. We chatted about growing up poor in the North of England, finding our way into the fashion industry and the significance of the French Tuck.
Of course, I had to ask Tan about his statement quiff and find out the specifics of his haircare regime. As we’ve been talking about ‘washing less’ recently on TNMA, I thought readers might be interested in Tan’s styling regime:
‘I wash my hair every day, which Jonathan (Van Ness) hates! I use Clairol purple shampoo to combat brassiness. Then apply Argan oil, which I buy from Boots, to add moisture and finish with Firsthand Pomade to keep the shape. The volume is all from the blow-dry!’
M&S is looking good right now. Here are some of our favourite autumn/ winter pieces:

Alyson this is great. I watched him
On Next in Fashion with Alexa Chung and Gigi Hadid. Loved his personality and demeanour.
Good to see you and involved with him
Here. Re hair. I followed your lead and grew out my brown hair dye. It’s not white after five years rather uniform salt and pepper. But so much easier to maintain with far better texture even when swimming. Win win so I joined the grey brigade. Saw Mary Portas on Channel 4 Ecology programme last night even she with the decisive red geometric bob has gone grey. It looked excellent.
Will check out M and S offerings when next in store. Their tights and undies always. And the food department.
