We love Laura Dern
Who hasn’t been a Laura Dern fan since David Lynch’s 1986 film Blue Velvet? The award-winning actor added another Golden Globe to her collection this week, taking the tally up to five. Dern is fantastic as the ruthless divorce lawyer Nora Fanshaw in Marriage Story, whose version of power dressing means a fabulous body-con frock. Over her 40-year career, Dern has gone from Wild at Heart (and weird on top) to Jurassic World, received a Golden Globe and an Emmy for playing scene-stealing lawyer Renata Klein in Big Little Lies, and currently stars as Marmee in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. For her portrayal of Fanshaw in Marriage Story the 52-year-old daughter of Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd is a favourite for an Oscar nomination. On age and being over-50, she told the New York Times, ‘I can, in the same year, be the same age and playing a very sexualized character, a very maternal character, a very heroic character, a bitch, and there’s nothing saying, “Oh, now that you’re this age, we’re gonna define you.”‘
We love Laura Dern.
