That’s Not My Age Podcast episode 2: Jayne Mayled founder of White Hot Hair
Having worked in the beauty industry for over 20 years, when Jayne Mayled, stopped dyeing her hair and couldn’t find the right products, she decided to create her own range. The founder of White Hot Hair takes a positive approach to ageing and is passionate about changing stereotypes. Her mantra ‘It’s not a choice between clinging or crumbling,’ is genius; the declaration that desperately holding onto youth and dilapidation are not the only ways of being. Jayne is the perfect person to talk to about grey hair. On feeling authentic and finally ditching the dye in her 50s (she’s now 61), she said, ‘ I wanted something that reflected the way I felt. I wanted my exterior to match my interior. I went grey early on and kept dyeing it but it became harder and harder to do.’
In the second That’s Not My Age podcast we discuss going grey, the increased visibility of older models, running a successful business and bad hair days. Taking a faff-free approach to haircare and fashion, Jayne insists that we don’t need loads of products and lives in an all-black uniform. Often with a textural twist or interesting detail and a pile of silver bangles, her outfit makes the perfect backdrop for her gorgeous grey hair.

Have not yet done podcasts – but I do think I need to start. Perhaps your podcasts will be the spur I need?
My hope is that I do not miss out on what sounds like a fascinating discussion. I guess if it is the podcast, only, I really do need to get on and try it. Hopefully, having both will not detract from the written blogs. I am wedded to the radio but so often have music (and sometimes voices too) while I read, so podcasts will need to be fitted in differently.
Looking at the pic of Jayne, sadly it reinforces my view that grey/white is great when one has such a spectacular colour but if one shows every sign of being a drab house mouse, continue to bring on the colour, – my very reason for it all those years ago. It is not to do with trying to hang on to youth, but wanting to have a defined colour. I would do grey or white like a shot if it resembled Jayne’s!
Do I need to listen to the podcast to find out a colourful alternative?
