Brilliant and timely – thank you Alyson. I have become much more uniform led during this time, and am enjoying simplifying everything.

Thanks for ever insightful suggestions Alyson. I’ve really been making an effort with my outfits since before Christmas. Comfort always. But better colour combinations and my weekly zoom chats with family members plus friends forces me to make an effort with clean shiny hair. Makeup so I don’t look drawn and tired and colours. Yellows. Reds. Brighter complexion enhancing colours which I plan to carry on into spring too.
Your concept of laying things out and playing while “shopping the old wardrobe “ has lead to some more interesting combinations of not only colour palettes but mixing textures as you do frequently in your outfits. I like the freshness this adds.
My inspiration comes from longstanding enjoyment of fashion magazines. My whole life I’ve read French Elle. Now I read the digital version ditto a subscription online to Grazia. Fun to see the styling which gives me ideas of youthful ways of putting outfits together. Plus I wear perfume and jewellery: silver necklaces and bracelets all year round every day. Cheers me up plus they customise even humdrum clothing.

Over the last year I’ve realised how dependent I am on coats and jackets for my favourite ‘looks’ and I’m not really wearing them at home. Jumpers and cardigans are more comfortable for zooming. I’ve also realised how much I dress to be seen when out and about and that I enjoyed putting outfits together almost as public performance. Also it’s was so cold for a couple of weeks earlier in the month style went out the window and my only thought was how many layers I could wear and still move around! Still spring is on the way and even the slight lift in temperature we have had has enabled a little more experimentation. Useful article Alyson you’ve inspired a wardrobe review.
