Hello Bev and thank you. I’ve had these jeans since the 1990s, so 25- 30 years! They’re one of my favourite pairs. In desperation, I tried a beanie hat and bunches over the weekend and it was fine because it was cold and I was all wrapped up. Though I think the slightly messy top knot is better in the long run…

Dear Alyson do treat your post lockdown self to the smart blue slacket. It looks so flattering on you and is a good intermediate season garment to have. With a Mac thrown over for this inclement climate. I have something comparable in a charcoal wool and green cotton versions too.
I also like the blue and wine shirt combo and faded jeans. I’m moving gradually to the just smart enough wardrobe look. I have many wonderful silk blouses to wear with two newer sloppier fit cardis this spring again with a lose Mac over the top. Shoes I have in abundance also. For a professional webinar last week I wore a dress, Uniqlo Marrimekko sale buy, pullover underneath, stacked bracelets and a silver chain necklace with pendant. A squirt of perfume and silver rings. I dusted off a pair of black suede comfy Camper shoes to wear with tights however at the last minute I relented and put black ankle socks on with my spotted black Birkenstock’s.
Personally I shall need to break in shoe wearing little by little. An hour here or there. Have been ruined by comfortable sandals and sheepskin slippers for months. -

Great post thanks Alyson. It’s always slightly disconcerting living on the other side of the world to read about winter clothes in the middle of summer and vice versa, but this could work just as well for us in NZ heading into Autumn.

Your jeans are aged to perfection – jealous! How long did it take to get them that gorgeous? Great minds think alike – I accidentally bunged my hair into a high ponytail (by putting my head right down and grabbing the hair) to cleanse my face the other night and discovered a hairstyle I actually like. It is a sort of messy, not quite chignon and I think I might have saved myself a trip to the hairdressers after lockdown. Washed and dried my duvet coat and put it away – I am bored witless of wearing it although wearing ‘a proper coat’ to the supermarket feels a bit overdressed I Don’t Care. The rumblings of Making An Effort are brewing…………………….
