J.Crew Toothpick Jeans

— by Alyson Walsh

Much as I like the look of slouchy boyfriend jeans, I still prefer to wear a slimmer leg shape. There’s just more mileage in a streamlined silhouette that doesn’t feel too tricky and goes with heels, flats, just about everything. Having tried on several different
styles and brands in New York, I settled on this pair of J.Crew
Toothpick jeans in a coated black denim. Can’t seem to
find the exact version online but they are available in plain black, white and a lovely vintage wash. Anyhow. I was delighted to see these images of the fabulous Linda Rodin wearing the very same style on Tumblr. Hold on a minute while I give myself a pat on the back…

Snapped yesterday, in-between torrential showers and a trip to the supermarket, this photo feels a bit John Major next to Linda’s lovely colourful picture. To be honest, I’m getting the distinct impression that the Blog Widower is not fully committed to his role as my official street style photographer, but who can blame him? The work is so intermittent, it’s practically a zero-hours contract. The Toothpick jeans are much better in real life/on the J Crew website. Honest.

When it comes to boyfriend jeans, I’ve tried several on and they’re either too short or too eighties. And anyway, why waste money when I can create the look by wearing an old pair of loose-fitting jeans, without a belt? Which is fine until I have to walk anywhere and the waistband has to hoicked up and rolled over. No idea how kids go from A-B in their low-riding bumster jeans – oh of course, they hitch a ride with their parents.

What kind of jeans are you wearing at the moment?
