Things you never knew you wanted: a pair of shiny, silver trousers

Let’s talk about Casual Glamour. Chanel always said ‘it’s better to be underdressed’ – and I concur. Perhaps it’s something to do with growing up in Blackpool in the 1970s and 80s, when, if you didn’t look like a member of Pan’s People (play the video) you were a nobody. Refused entry to nightclubs if dressed in anything less than disco-tastic. Whatever. I’ve never felt comfortable dolled up to the nines. I’d much rather be low-key than look-at-me. Blending day and eveningwear offers a more relaxed approach and helps take the edge off. Glamour, but make it casual.
Having lived in coated jeans for years, the shine had worn off (quite literally). Time for an upgrade. Which is where the shiny silver kecks come in. They are surprisingly easy to wear. Primarily because the straight-leg shape is super-versatile. It goes with everything. I’ve worn my silver leather jeans with a navy classic crew neck jumper over a white T-shirt. Arranged so that you can see the rib of the T-shirt at the neckline – I quite like this little style trick to lighten up the proceedings. Fancy pants also look great with an oversized cotton shirt and sneakers, a big chunky jumper works a treat (banish all thoughts of Theresa May), or go as sleek as you like with a blazer and T-shirt. So far, so simple. And that’s how we like it.

Where to find silver jeans
Madewell, Mango, Reformation, M&S, Frame and Free People all have coated denim jeans.
For leather, try: Jigsaw, Hush, Whistles, Mango – and Wyse London has faux leather.
Shine on.

STYLE NOTES
The silver leather jeans are an amazing gift from Jigsaw for which I am hugely grateful. The navy Double Faced Cropped Jacket was loaned from The White Company. My grey marl T-shirt is very old American Apparel. My velvet slippers are from Le Monde Beryl (keep an eye on The Outnet for bargains).
You look fantastic in this outfit. I’ve been eyeing up the M&S silver jeans for what seems like ages! I’m going to try them out. Unfortunately I love dressing up and it’s sometimes hard to know when to leave the silver, glitter, lurex, etc off. I think the silver jeans look great with an oversize white blouse and that’s where I’ll start. Who knows where it will end.
