I’d definitely have another go, Bev – I love a neckerchief and your colleague’s got a bloomin’ cheek! Agree, there are lots of lovely second-hand scarves (of the non-polyester variety), I used to buy them at Greenwich Market which sadly is no more.

Have you tried Joli Vintage Living for scarves and everything lovely. Just before the entrance to the main market.

I love a scarf – long ones, fringed, square, rectangle anything that I can ‘swoosh’ around my neck. In my attempt to add more colour into my wardrobe I have found scarves a cheap(er) and easier way than splurging money I don’t have on clothing. Also, if I retreat back into neutral territory I won’t have wasted money on clothing! Scarves can be picked up reasonably anywhere from charity shops to TK Maxx. As much as I covet the idea of a Paul Smith I can’t see one winging it’s way to me too soon! (ditto Liberty’s). Any scarf as long as the fabric is not too cheap and nasty (read scratchy polyester) and the colours complimentary to me and my clothing I am not too fussed. As an over 60 who’s neck is looking a little ravaged, a scarf covers a multitude of scragginess and a good colourway can brighten up my face. However, I have always been wary of wearing a small square around my neck as shown above as the last time I did a colleague told me that I looked like a pirate! I will definitely try again as they look so gorgeous on Melanie Laslett who doesn’t look piratical at all.
