Summer boots
That’s Not My Age has spent the weekend wearing a pair of fabulous new boots. No they’re not Balmain or Balenciaga, these beauties are from outdoor footwear specialist, Brasher. Mr TNMA and I are fond of a weekend stroll and fed up with traipsing around in a pair of old trainers, I opted for some serious footwear. But this presented a serious style challenge. How to wear proper walking boots without looking like a member of the Countryside Alliance?
First, leave the utility jacket alone – Kate Middleton goes grouse-shooting is not the look we’re after here – and when in doubt, turn to the grand dame of sporty chic for inspiration:
A Breton top is perfect for the riverside ramble but add a sensible rucksack and suddenly I’m feeling more Edmund Hillary than Coco Chanel:
But check out those sunglasses – I’ll have some of that! This pair from Linda Farrow should do the trick:
They may not have platform heels and a designer price tag but as far as I’m concerned my new ankle boots are the cat’s pyjamas. Back in the olden days when That’s Not My Age was a student, I thought Dr Marten’s were the only boots I’d ever wear (then I grew up and got a job!) and I have a similar feeling now. There’s a strong possibility that I might wake up in the morning and slip my new Brashers on – and if I do, I’d like to look something like this:

Since returning occasionally to the smartly dressed office, I've discovered that my ability to ignore the pain in my feet has vanished. Is this a universal phenomena, or is it just me?
E and Rose – I can highly recommend the Brashers. Very comfortable worn with thick socks, we walked quite a long way (well, it felt like a long way!) and my feet and I were very happy.
Sparx – what about the Reeboks?
Ellen – this is a universal phenomenon. I live in flat shoes and trainers now.
The breton top is lovely. I have a bit of an obsession about stripey tops!

Gosh, I love your boots! We hike (ramble?) a lot and "sensible walking shoes" and boots are part of my attire. I actually have apair of shoes (if they can be called that) that I never, ever want to take off and so I don't (except for bed). I just left them at a resort we visited at the weekend so they are being speed-posted back to me. I am almost too embarrassed to tell what they are…hold on, grit teeth, they are a pair of CROCS Malindi maryjanes that I bought for kayaking. These things are like magic shoes. They are magic shoes. They are absolutely the most comfortable things I have ever worn. Of course, I'm exaggerating about wearing them all the time. I don't when I'm in public view, but at home, they are my constant companions.

I wear flats a lot. I don't need heels in this rural idyll (read: backwater)

I'm absolutely loving walking boots at the moment! And I love the whole breton/ rucksack look. We should start a Ladies Walking Club.
(btw – is Kate Middleton the actual antithesis of fashion, or what? Ugh. How can a pretty girl get it so wrong?)
