Maltby Street Market

— by Alyson Walsh

Rushing around, commuting, blogging: sometimes it’s good to have a holiday in your own city. And so yesterday, a visit to Maltby Street Market. Up until about four years ago, there was a Monmouth Coffee Shop and very little else on Maltby Street. Under the old railway arches just around the corner from London Bridge train station was where the Borough Market suppliers stored their produce. Now it’s a proper food market with lots of small cafés and stalls selling brunch, biscuits and Bloody Marys.

Architectural salvage dealers Lassco have a place on Rope Walk stocking lovely/overpriced vintage furniture and stuff:

This fantastic 1950s side table and plant display would look right at home at That’s Not My Age Mansions.

Though you’re more likely to find a bargain at Tanner Street Market nearby. We spotted this gorgeous globe but it had already been sold as a film prop.

It’s fun to rediscover places. Lately we’ve been out and about in London and Paris. My apologies to George Orwell.

Hope you’re having a fantastic weekend.
