Serena Hood, Penelope Chilvers and Lucinda Chambers aren’t loafing around
Just when I was beginning to wonder if I’ll ever wear smart shoes again, along comes a limited edition collection of loafers well worth swapping my stompy boots and Birki’s for. The lovely loafers have been designed as part of a collaboration between Penelope Chilvers and Collagerie; the website (curated shopping destination) for fashion, beauty, and interiors that’s the brainchild of former British Vogue Editors, Lucinda Chambers and Serena Hood. These fancy flats come in three clashing colour combinations – all of which are incredibly versatile, wear them with rolled up jeans, a khaki jumpsuit or pair of baggy trousers – and there are matching socks. Could it be time to step out in a pair of snazzy shoes?

I had a pair of Bass Weejuns years ago and love this classic penny loafer-style. There’s a couple of pairs (including pink suede in the gallery). How do you find the new version, Maudie? I mean, quality-wise?

The ‘vintage’ Bass Weejuns were better quality and were a softer leather. My current ones are incredibly stiff and I think, perhaps, they are using inferior leathers?

I love Lucinda’s style – always have… I think hers is the look I’m channelling, but in a slightly modified way! I hadn’t heard the podcast – so just listened, excellent! Perfect for Saturday morning with a cup of tea. I get loads of inspiration scrolling through Collagerie, too – especially the interior stuff and artwork.
I thought initially it was a huge loss when Lucinda left Vogue, but I think the magazine did need a change, and it obviously proved a brilliant stepping off point for Lucinda too. In the podcast she talked about never feeling so energised and ambitious before – establishing her own company (with friends) really released something new and exciting.
Love the loafers; slightly out of my range, but may be tempted by the socks!

Yes, agree with you Robyn. Bass Weejuns are the more reasonably-priced alternative. Now available in a range of colours….

I love these loafers and matching socks. So charming and functional. I’ve got red and black versions of these. But these will go on a wish list to try on should shoe shops ever reopen. Glad to read here and elsewhere that Lucinda Chambers has various gigs underway since leaving Vogue. Her flair will not go to waste. Recommend the TNMA podcast with her plus one I heard at The Collectors house on a plane. Her going to Harrods with her mother to study clothes which they then reproduced really stuck with me. I used to do similar at Joseph at its height.

Thank you for the cheery loafer post. Not only was I happy to see loafers but the return of socks.. At work the other day it was 32 degrees Fahrenheit and most of my coworkers were sockless. Being that I don’t like to be cold I had on socks. I looked around and exclaimed “What does everyone have against socks?”.
Me too! Bit too chilly at the moment but decided when it is warmer to channel the ‘Can’t afford Margaret Howell (sigh) but can stretch to Toast look with loafers and socks and Mary Janes and socks. (Thanks Clarks Taylor Palm and Seasalt Penpoll!).

I have been living in flats lo these last many years and my feet have never felt or looked better. These loafers are lovely….thanks so much for alerting all of us to them. I just ordered the pair with the yellow accents, although I could have easily gone with the pink….which were calling out to me, even thought I theoretically hate pink and I think I have only bought pink twice in the past 50 years (a barely there pale water-colour pink polo in high school and a bright pink almost magenta top a couple of years ago.) Sadly, I can’t justify two pairs at this point.

These are so uplifting and happy! I thought my Bass Weejuns were fabulous and now these come along in much needed joyful colours. Love them.
