Style made simple
— by Alyson Walsh
Sometimes it’s the simple things…like this white cotton shirt layered over a stripy Breton top in January’s edition of Vogue. Sling on a bit of bling, add some stars to the stripes, for glamour of the most casual variety.
These are wardrobe essentials that work all year-round:

Love the simple look. Not sure I would wear white in this currently dreary and wet weather. Maybe when I go to France.

How uninspirational to see a 20-30 year old model on a blog even from this website!!!
Can you really not find any older models wearing something like this?
Very disappointing.Barbara, sorry to hear that you’re disappointed but I do consistently use images of older models, and the ageless/timeless outfit is the focus here.

I love the basic pieces/essential elements– Uncertain about the white top over the stripped Breton.

I can’t bring myself to wear white jeans or trousers much in Summer let alone Winter .
It feels like grockle territory !
Things like the first divine photo of the young tanned model [ age 20?] with the minute waist would IMO translate badly to most women on the planet . A breton like that is roomy , imagine the bulk it would create, perhaps the photo has been tweaked?
I love proper Bretons but the tighter stripy top spinoffs seem less chic.I do adore simplicity in my wardrobe but tend to be a serial buyer and some small zany touches are what I need.
I love a Breton stripe top all year round – but I don’t have the tiny waist that this particular look flatters. I wear mine untucked, and would add some of the cool jewelry you’re showing today. xox

I love a clean, crisp white blouse. Certainly, a staple in my wardrobe. The Striped Breton tops are a go to in the warmer months. But…white pants don’t seem to work. Perhaps, if I found a pair with some weight they would be more pleasing on.

White shirts… Always a yes!! White pants? Only in Florida. Two layers tucked in? Yikes, not on a fifty-something waist!

I like the essentials elements in the wardrobe. Consciously or unconsciously, we all have essential elements. In my opinion, the items of clothing that an individual gravitates to and are worn often become their essential elements.
One person’e essential elements can be quite different from another person’s essential elements. I think body type, personal style, and preferences factor heavily in to any individual’s essential elements. Susan
