Twenty-five years after the release of Daydream Nation, I’m still inspired by Kim Gordon’s grungy style and no-nonsense attitude. Whether she’s on stage or off, in masculine tailoring or a feminine slip dress, the 60-year-old guitarist always looks cool. Here’s Gordon wearing a gorgeous Christopher Kane velvet dress and chic Jil Sander shirt for the October edition of Interview magazine.

I’m pleased to hear that Kim’s also a fan of comfy shoes…
‘When I think about the women I know who I admire, there actually aren’t that many who are really girly. They dress more practically, even if they’re into fashion. They’re smart—it’s not to say that women who are supersexualized aren’t smart, and it’s one thing to play around with your image—but I don’t actually know anyone who walks around Manhattan in four-inch heels.’

Nah, I don’t know anyone who looks like an airbrushed 14-year-old decked out in head-to-toe designer clobber either, but I wouldn’t mind existing in the Kim Gordon/Saint Laurent Paris parallel universe. Always fancied a YSL tuxedo (still finding it difficult to drop the Yves).

Love this Alyson! Yes, that relaxed, comfortable style that comes with knowing yourself and what suits you. Perfect. I love the look of older french women too – those that haven't gone the route of too much botox and fillers! Julie Delpy and Carine Roitfeld are always favourites.
I love Kim Gordon. My first trip to New York in 1991 was made when I spied her inside Sigerson Morrison's amazing shoe store in Greenwich Village trying on a pair of black patent boots. They did not look very comfy… It's a bit sad that there will be no more Sonic Youth but I'm sure whatever Kim does will be fantastic.
I follow Aimee Mann on Twitter (another candidate for a column of lurve surely) and she posted a recent pic of her, KG, Amy Poehler and Carrie Brownstein having a drink together. Now that was one very cool table.

I don't know who she is, but Kim Gordon is inspiring me at the moment. I was having similar thoughts lately realizing that what I love in the shops isn't always the same as what I love to wear. Sometimes it's hard to walk away from pretty shoes, but I have to say I agree with Ms. Gordon.
No, Kim Gordon doesn't "do it" for me. I think to pull off such a grungie look you've got to be extremely beautiful, confident, or famous. Probably being built like a stick would also help.
She looks like she would bite my head off.
I have always liked the look of Diane Keaton, although I'm not sure what she is wearing these days. Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure I'd like it, or be wearing it myself already.
