Yarn bombing and a birthday in Bath

Another weekend, another 50th birthday party – yep, they’re rolling in, thick and fast. The latest celebration was over in Bath, the beautiful Georgian city/World Heritage site that’s always a treat to visit. On Bath Street, there’d been a spot of Yarn Bombing (me neither), lovely handmade crochet flowers were wrapped around the golden columns. I bumped into Emma Leith, the artist who organised the project as part of Bath in Fashion to raise money for the charity Kids Company, she told me, ‘The idea is to awaken people to their surroundings and inject humour into everyday objects. It’s like graffiti with wool ‘. And just like Bristol-born Banksy, Leith’s handiwork is highly desirable  – security guards had to be employed to prevent the crochet roses being nabbed overnight.
